GAINING SELF DISCIPLINE

As most of you know, or should know by now at least, Discipline is our first core value listed on our walls and in our handbooks. The base of my physical education and probably the most important characteristic I have adopted throughout my life is discipline and the daily application of such.

My mom more than my dad was my disciplinary growing up. Good cop, bad cop if you will. Dad wanted to be the nice guy and give me love and material things probably because he as a kid wasn’t given much and had to work his ass of for all he had. Mamma dukes on the other hand, layeth the smacketh down upon me, daily.

I’m not playing the victim role here by no means, I deserved it. My mom meant business, and If I wasn’t paying attention or listening to her, she gave me about 5 min to get my shit together or she was putting me in my place regardless of where we were and what we were doing.

I thank her for it now.

However, at one point as I was growing older and taller my parents understood that it took more than parental guidance to create raise a child with solid core values.

Judo. An organized activity and my first means of external discipline.

At age 9, I became a student of this discipline and believe it to be the second best thing to teach me how to control my thoughts and actions.

Dr, Jigoro Kano, the founder of Judo Says:

“Judo is the way to the most effective use of both physical and spiritual strength. By training you in attacks and defenses it refines your body and your soul and helps you make the spiritual essence of judo a part of your very being. In this way you are able to perfect yourself and contribute something of value to the world. This is final goal of judo discipline.”

After reading that it makes sense where my spirituality comes from today.

Discipline, the aftermath of mamma dukes tough lovin’, and practicing judo, not judo itself is what created me. It has been the foundation to my bodybuilding championships, and all of our community accomplishments here at bodhi.

Without discipline, your goals are merely dreams. Motivation in itself is nothing without the application of discipline.

Have you fallen short of you goals? Are you dreaming about losing weight, feeling great and looking sexy? Are you waking up without any “motivation” to begin your day?

Do you lack discipline?

Most likely.

Luckily for you, discipline is what we do and who we are.

Dedicated to your success,

Anthony
